The seawall checklist
The Building Inspections Division's seawall checklist (updated January 29, 2024) asks for (city checklist):
- a Broward County Uniform Permit Application, building checked, from a licensed general contractor or marine contractor,
- an Engineering Permit Application from a licensed contractor,
- the Broward County Environmental Resource General License,
- a contract or schedule of values for the work,
- a special inspector form if piles are installed,
- a survey or site plan showing where the work is,
- construction plans signed, sealed and dated by a design professional.
Inspections you should expect
The building permit carries five marine inspections: erosion control, footings, seawall panel reinforcement, engineer reports and final structural. The engineering permit adds a seawall footer form and steel inspection and a seawall footer final (city checklist).
What Section 151.02 adds
- Plans and specifications must be prepared by a Florida licensed engineer, with a site plan or survey showing the work in relation to adjoining land and waterways.
- As-built drawings and the engineer's final certification of completion are submitted before the city's final acceptance.
- The engineering permit fee is 4 percent of the cost of the work, with a minimum of $100.
- The application must include detailed cost information. If it does not, the Building Official values the work using published construction cost data.
Section 151.02 also says the applicant must seek approvals from Broward County, the Florida DEP or South Florida Water Management District, and the Army Corps of Engineers as applicable (Sec. 151.02).
Notice of Commencement
Required when the contract price is over $5,000. A recorded copy can go in with the application or be on the job site for the first inspection (city checklist).
Plans also have to land within Pompano's 5 foot to 5 foot 10 inch NAVD88 range. See the Pompano Beach seawall height requirement. Seawall and dock questions can go to [email protected] (city flyer).
